Cullen Run Scholar

Starting in 2015, proceeds from the run/walk began funding an annual $25,000 Steve Cullen Healthy Heart Scholar Award as well as other cardiac research projects. This award honors a Medical College scientist involved in cutting-edge cardiovascular research, once again placing the money raised directly in the laboratory, where we can make the most difference!

In 2022, we proudly raised that Cullen Scholar award to $50,000 and announced that our first Cullen Scholar at this level would be Caitlin O’Meara, PhD, who is studying ways to regenerate heart cells.  Dr. O’Meara’s groundbreaking work has the potential to lessen heart damage and prevent early death for heart failure patients. It may also provide an alternative to current therapies such as heart transplants.
